There’s always a little uncertainty when planning a spring engagement session in Hamilton. For Lauren and Evan’s shoot at Dundurn Castle, that uncertainty came in the form of pouring rain the moment we arrived.
We actually spent the first ten minutes sitting separately in our cars watching the weather, wondering if we were going to have to reschedule. Then, almost out of nowhere, the rain stopped, the clouds opened up, and the sun broke through. What followed was some of the best post-rain light and colour you could ask for during a Hamilton engagement session.
The gardens around Dundurn Castle were glowing after the rain, with rich spring greens, soft reflections, and that fresh atmosphere you only get after a storm passes through. The historic architecture of the castle mixed perfectly with the softer spring scenery, giving us a ton of variety throughout the session.
Lauren and Evan were incredibly easygoing throughout the whole experience, which made the session feel natural right from the start. One of the best parts of engagement sessions is getting to know couples before the wedding day, and this shoot gave us the chance to really connect before their wedding coming up very soon.
That comfort and familiarity makes such a difference later on. By the end of the session, it felt less like meeting clients and more like spending time with friends while exploring one of Hamilton’s most iconic locations.
As a location for engagement photos, Dundurn Castle is hard to beat. Between the historic stonework, scenic paths, gardens, and views overlooking the city and waterfront, it offers a huge amount of variety in a single location. It’s one of the reasons it remains one of the most popular spots for Hamilton engagement photography.
We’re counting down the days until Lauren and Evan’s wedding and can’t wait to document the next chapter for them.
If you’re planning a Hamilton engagement session or looking for engagement photos at Dundurn Castle, spring is an incredible time to take advantage of the colours, gardens, and softer evening light the property has to offer.
