There are few places in Niagara-on-the-Lake as romantic as Konzelmann Estate Winery, and when Yao reached out to plan a surprise proposal for Jessica, this iconic vineyard overlooking Lake Ontario was the perfect setting.
From the very beginning, this proposal was carefully planned down to the smallest detail. I arrived early and quietly tucked myself away in the bushes near the gazebo, camera ready, waiting for the perfect moment to unfold without giving anything away.
The Moment She Realized
As Yao and Jessica approached the gazebo, the scene was already set, rose petals scattered across the walkway, the lake stretching endlessly behind it, and the calm of the vineyard all around them. At first, Jessica thought it was simply a beautiful walk through the estate. But as she stepped closer to the gazebo, the realization began to sink in.

Once the excitement settled, I stepped out to officially meet the newly engaged couple and after popping the celebratory bottle of champagne, we moved straight into a quick engagement-style photo session across some of the most scenic spots at Konzelmann Estate.
Jessica could barely contain her giddiness and kept looking at the new shiny hardware on her finger and Yao looked so proud of what he had managed to pull off (the surprise and getting engaged to a wonderful woman) and it was an absolute pleasure to photograph those emotions throughout. Konzelmann Estate offers some lovely spots that we took advantage of in the late afternoon light. The two of them spent some time by the water just enjoying each other, then we spent some time in the gazebo where the magic happened, and then of course some shots in Konzelmann’s productive vineyard.
The soft evening light, combined with the vineyard atmosphere and lake views, created a timeless, cinematic feel to their images — the kind that will never go out of style.
